SpamAssassin provides efficient scoring and Bayesian filtering. While SpamAssassin catches most spam out of the box, the threshold possibly has to be adjusted to eliminate false positives.

SpamAssassin is a great combination of simplicity and just the right dose of complexity. To the user, SpamAssassin couldn't be more simple: it just identifies spam for moving it to a special "Junk" folder automatically; nothing you'd have to do. In the background, SpamAssassin uses a complex set of scoring filters, blackhole lists, collaborative databases of spam characteristics and Bayesian statistics to make that spam identification as reliable as possible. Unfortunately, even SpamAssassin's filter set is not perfect and can produce one or the other false positive. So you will probably want to heighten the spam threshold a bit to make SpamAssassin a little less aggressive and train the Bayesian filtering with good mail as well as spam.
